Industrial Action
For the most up to date information on any industrial action, each university has information and updates:
University Requirements:
If you are affected by industrial action, some basic guidance on the service you should receive and your rights are listed below:
- Your university should take reasonable steps to avoid disruption.
- They should make up for any lost teaching.
- Any changes to assessments shouldn't disadvantage you.
- They should communicate regularly with you.
Consumer Rights:
- Consumer protection still exists even when strikes are on-going.
- Your university must meet their contractual obligations.
- Your university shouldn't try to impose any unfair terms.
- Your university shouldn't limit or exclude their liability.
- If any of the above occurs you may have a right to take action.
Impact to Academic Studies:
- These are likley but the university still has a duty to adhere to the above points.
- Your university may decide to make a range of amendments to your assessments if the strike action significantly disrupts your studies.
- Any changes should be communicated clearly to you.
Concerns:
- We advise all students, who feel they are being unfairly impacted by the strike actions, to keep accurate records of what detrimental impacts they have suffered and any financial losses.
- Keep any evidence you possibly can, i.e. emails, costs, cancellations, etc.
- This is important as if you decide at any point to lodge a formal complaint or a claim with the university you may need this information/proof.
