Do you want to make your halls feel a little bit more festive this year? Sure, you could go and buy a bunch of decorations, but where are you going to store them, who is going to take them at the end of the year?

Fret no more, we've got some great ideas of how you can decorate your halls or accommodation in a sustainable fashion.

O Christmas Tree, how lovely thy branches!

This year, swap the artifical Christmas tree for a gorgeous houseplant. Whether it's a cactus, a big leafy one or a conifer, they'll all make great Christmas trees with a little bit of decoration. Anything with branches is perfect, even a little bonsai! No branches, no worries, it'll still be easy enough to decorate with fairy lights.

Gingerbread

We all love to go for a mulled wine or hot chocolate and have a little bit of gingerbread on the side. This year however, make gingerbread the main attraction. It's a great activity to make a gingerbread house or you can create a set of decorations for your tree if you leave a hole to thread some twine through. The best thing is that you can set a date to eat it all!

Head into nature

Step into nature and go for a walk, at this time of year you might be able to find some lovely pine cones to gather. Create a Christmas table centre piece with them or nestle them into your Christmas tree for an authentic feel. You could even wrap some string around them and use them as hanging decorations.

You can also make a natural garland, try and find some everygreen branches from nature, pine cones and dry some orange segments.

Cardboard Christmas

Save your cardboard boxes, wrap them in some wrapping paper and you've got some fake presents to stack around windows or shelving. These will fill the corners and nooks of your room with a colour pattern.

Charity shop Christmas

Have a look in your local charity store if they have any decorations that need a good home. At the end of the festive period, donate them back again.Think of it as a way to support a good cause at Christmas that will be low cost and environmentally friendly.
